Katie Dominguez – HΛ #8
Director of Expansion Relations

My name is Katie Norma Dominguez Sandoval. I grew up in a small town called Fortuna, located 2 hours south of the Oregon border. It was a small bubble, there were limited opportunities available. My parents migrated to the states from Mexico to give my siblings and I a better life. Although my parents growing up never advanced in their studies due to families financial hardships and were forced to work, they were and still are huge believers in education. I always joke with them for “kicking me out” after senior year and making me move away for college, but in all honesty it was the best thing they ever did for me. I am thankful for it every day of my life! I moved away to attend Sacramento State in the Fall of 2011. I started off as a Pre- Business major, then a Social Work major, and then finally received my bachelor’s of art in Communication Studies, Public Relations in the summer of 2016.

I worked in the PR field for a dental association for 2 years  until one day while sitting in my cubicle, I had an epiphany. My passion of working with kids resurfaced and it was at that moment when I decided to redirect my career goals to my original passion, the education field. Currently, I am working at an elementary school and also working on completing courses that will allow me to apply to a credential/masters program in hopes to pursue teaching elementary students. Through all of this, I have learned the importance of following my heart regardless of others around me. My ultimate goal would be to achieve my teaching credential and travel to impoverished countries to offer my skills.

Aside of from finding my career goals, some of my hobbies include  traveling, going to concerts, running and cooking. Being able to travel to other countries has allowed me to expand my taste in food, music and opinions. I truly believe traveling is one of the best forms of education.
